SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MANAGING AN EXCHANGE BETWEEN A GATEWAY SERVER AND A CLIENT-SIDE MODULE

A system and method for reducing the impact of high latency satellite and wireless links (Fig.2) by performing predictive prefetching and pushing of data objects needed by a user. In one embodiment, a user throught a web browser initially requests a web page. This request is passed to a client PEP (150) that often incorporated with the user´satellite modem. Responsive to receiving the request, the origin server generates an index page associated with the requested web page and passes that index page to the gateway PEP (145), which parses the index pagee to identify the objects listed therein. Next, the gateway PEP generates the requests to prefetch those identified objects and passes those requests to the origin server. The client PEP can then pass at least the index page to the user.
