<p>There is disclosed a process for incorporating a particulate calcium carbonate filler in a thermoplastic polymer to form a calcium carbonate-filled polymer composition suitable for the preparation of breathable polymer film, said process comprising: (a) introducing the calcium carbonate into the polymer in a dry compacted form which has a bulk density greater than the maximum bulk density obtainable by subjecting an uncompacted sample of the calcium carbonate to tamping; and (b) mechanically treating the polymer to disperse the calcium carbonate uniformly therein. Also disclosed is an apparatus therefor comprising a compactor and an extruder which includes at least one inlet to which the compactor is connected.</p> |
