<p>A high-luminance, high-efficiency, high-reliability, and thin solid-state self-emission display and a method for producing such a display at low cost. The solid-state self-emission display comprises an emission thin film of a multilayer including a layer containing insulator-coated crystalline particles (5) the size of which is of the order of nanometers and a layer containing phosphor particles (7) the size of which is of the order of nanometers or of a mixture of the insulator-coated crystalline particles (5) and the phosphor particles (7) and an emission section composed of a lower electrode and a transparent upper electrode. The upper and lower electrodes sandwich the emission thin film. Electrons (9) injected from the lower electrode are accelerated in the insulator-coated crystalline particle layer (6) without being scattered by phonons and become high-energy ballistic electrons, which collide and excite phosphor particles to produce excitons (13). Since the size of the phosphor particles is of the order of nanometers, the concentration of excitons is high, and therefore the intensity of light emitted by the annihilation of excitons increases.</p> |
