The invention relates to a brake system for a vehicle that can be operated without a driver. Said system comprises a service brake device, a parking brake device and an emergency brake device. At least the wheel brake devices of the wheels of one axle of the vehicle dispose of emergency brake actuators that, due to the initiation of an emergency braking operation, switch the associated wheel brake devices into the braking state. The emergency braking operation can be initiated both manually by means of an emergency brake operating device as well as automatically by means of a monitoring device if the latter has determined an impermissible operating state of the vehicle during driverless operation.
