The pipe stopper (2) has a cleaning tool (3) for cleaning the pipe and is positioned in a housing (4) with an operating unit (5). Two operating organs (5,8) are connected together and can move side to side or up and down. The organs are inserted into the pipe through an opening (15) in the housing and have struts (9) and a spring for moving them back to their original positions. The struts are made from a rust-free material e.g. austenitic stainless steel.
