The method for automatically splicing a new band of self-adhesive labels to the end of a used one comprises positioning the ends of the bands using a suction roller (36) so that they can be cut by a blade (31) between two labels. Adhesive tape is then applied to join the two cut ends. An Independent claim is included for a mechanism for carrying out the method.
