New 2-phosphatricyclodecane diphosphine derivatives useful as components of palladium catalysts for carbonylating conjugated dienes

Diphosphines (I) containing a 2-phosphatricyclo(3.3.1.1<3>.7)decyl group are new. Diphosphines of formula R<1>/>P-(CH2)n-PR2R3 (I) are new: R<1> = a divalent group forming with P an (un)substituted 2-phosphatricyclo(3.3.1.1<3>.7)decyl group in which one or more C atoms can be replaced with heteroatoms; R<2>, R<3> = 1-20C monovalent groups or together form a 2-20C divalent group; n = 4 or 5. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a carbonylation catalyst comprising a compound (I) and palladium or a palladium compound; (2) production of derivatives by liquid-phase carbonylation of a conjugated diene in the presence of a hydroxylic compound and a carbonylation catalyst as above.
