Hybrid CD-DVD device comprises outer surfaces (20, 22), CD information layer (24) and DVD information layer (30). The CD reading light (42) passes through the DVD information layer to read the CD information layer, while the DVD reading light (44) passes through the CD information layer to reach the DVD information layer. CD and DVD information layers are both at least partially transparent to the other's reading light beam.
