A floor construction comprising insulated sheets 15,17,23,25,27 of different dimensions which are supported by a plurality of beams 3, usually T-shaped, where the sheets are manufactured from extruded polystyrene for lightweight and load bearing characteristics. A surface 9 is added above the polystyrene sheets, which can be either be a power floated finish of concrete or suitable timber decking. The widest polystyrene sheets 15, 27 are provided with a rebate 19 of variable dimensions along their edges, in order to lie at variable heights over the beams to permit adjustment of the insulating properties. Narrower sheets of polystyrene 23, 27, are used to fill in smaller gaps between beams. A further vertical polystyrene sheet 27 is used to provide an insulated edge to the floated floor 9. The polystyrene sheets can be easily cut to allow provision of services 11. A damp-proof membrane 7 is placed between the polystyrene sheets and the finishing surface 9. |
