Production of a water (preferably H3O<+> ion)-selective permeable polymer membrane, especially a polyelectrolyte membrane for methanol fuel cells, is such that the membrane (1) is coated with a thin crosslinked polymer layer (3) by plasma-polymerization. An Independent claim is also included for the coated membrane.
