The airbag consists of a material containing a large synthetic fiber component. The fibers are of a heat-fixable synthetic. The folded airbag is compressed by application of an outside force, heated by heat radiation, and heat-set while compressed. The folded airbag is positioned in a chamber with moveable wall, and the chamber is subsequently evacuated. The appliance to carry out the procedure has a plate (10) to support the folded airbag (15), a gas-proof covering film (16), units for sealed connection of film edge to plate, an underpressure source (12) connected to the space thus defined, and a heater (14). |
