A magnetic recording medium characterized by at least one exchange layer structure (105, 107) and a magnetic layer (109) provided on the exchange layer structure (105, 107), said exchange layer structure (105, 107) including a ferromagnetic layer (105) and a non-magnetic coupling layer (107) provided on the ferromagnetic layer (105); and a magnetic bonding layer (106, 108) provided between the ferromagnetic layer (105) and the non-magnetic coupling layer (107) and/or between the non-magnetic coupling layer (107) and the magnetic layer (109); said magnetic bonding layer (106, 108) having a magnetization direction parallel to the ferromagnetic.layer (105) and the magnetic layer (109).
