Process and device for cleaning a particle filter of a car

The cleaning of a particle filter, e.g. in the exhaust system of a diesel-engined motor vehicle, which is regenerated from time to time by heating, comprises dismantling the filter assembly (4) from the exhaust and steeping its filter element (4') in a cleaning solution (3) for sufficient time to loosen any residues remaining in it. The filter element is held in the solution with its axis either horizontal or vertical, and the cleaning fluid is passed through it from its outlet (4b) to its inlet (4a) end while the fluid is kept at ambient temperature or above and agitated by ultrasound as it is circulated by a pump.
