1294816 Fibrous TiO 2 BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 22228/71 Heading C1N Fibrous TiO 2 is produced by contacting at least one Ti compound other than Ti(hal) 4 at a temperature above 600‹ C. with a melt of one or more salts of oxyacids which form volatile anhydrides under the reaction conditions. The Ti compound may be a hydroxide, halide, sulphide, sulphate, double sulphate, nitride, nitrite, nitrate, carbonate, carboxylate, alkoxide, thiocyanate, borate, cyanide, or ester, and may be solid, liquid, or gaseous (the latter may be mixed with a carrier gas, e.g. N 2 or air). The salt may be Li 2 SO 4 , Na 2 SO 4 , NaHSO 4 , Na 2 S 2 O 7 , K 2 SO 4 , KHSO 4 , K 2 S 2 O 7 , CuSO 4 , MgSO 4 , ZnSO 4 , CdSO 4 , MnSO 4 , or NiSO 4 . The reaction temperature may be 600-1200‹ C. The product is cooled and the residual melt dissolved out with water. Examples use (1) TiOSO 4 , NaHSO 4 and Na 2 SO 4 , (2) K 2 TiF 6 and Na 2 SO 4 . |
