PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method and equipment for continuously rolling a metallic material by which stable continuous rolling is enabled. SOLUTION: After a metallic rough shape material is successively rolled by a rolling mill train on the upstream side of a rolling line on which a plurality of rolling mill trains are arranged in series, a succeeding metallic base stock is clamped with a mobile joining device while holding a preceding metallic base stock between pinch rolls fixed to the mobile joining device which is movable back and forth between the rolling mill train on the upstream side and the rolling mill train on the downstream side. By advancing the mobile joining device at speed higher than the advancing speed of the preceding metallic base stock detected with the pinch rolls and striking the tip of the succeeding metallic base stock against the rear end of the preceding metallic base stock, positioning is performed and both stocks are joined. Preferably, after eliminating burrs in the joined part, by cooling the joined part and performing continuous rolling by the rolling mill train on the downstream side, the metallic rough shape material is made into a metallic finished material.
