PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus capable of facilitating maintenance work for itself without cutting a web when the maintenance work is required and which is provided with improved workability since the cutting of the web is unnecessary for the maintenance work. SOLUTION: The coating apparatus is installed in a web production apparatus for continuously producing the web and is for applying a coating liquid continuously to a running web and comprises a contacting and parting means for bringing a coating liquid application means into contact with the running web and parting the means from the web and a transporting means for transporting the coating liquid application means between a coating liquid application position and an outside position of the system of the web production apparatus.
