PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge an accidental fire and prevent gas from gushing out even if the accidental fire is caused for some reason when a controlling means is out of order (malfunctioning or running away) with respect to a gas clothes dryer wherein hot air heated by a gas burning portion is supplied to the interior of a rotary drum to dry clothes. SOLUTION: In the gas clothes dryer, hot air is fed into and discharged from the rotary drum for agitating clothes by a fan. An electromagnetic valve 8 is installed in the supply path of gas to a burner 7 as a heat source for this hot air. The amount of burned gas in the burner 7 is controlled by a proportional control valve 9, and drying operation is controlled by the controlling means 17. The controlling means 17 has a burning state monitoring means 19 which judges any accidental fire in the burner 7 according to temperature data from a temperature detecting means 13 for detecting the temperature of the burner 7. If any accidental fire is judged by either of the controlling means 17 and the burning state monitoring means 19, either or both of the electromagnetic value 8 and the proportional control valve 9 are closed.
