PURPOSE: An electronic distance measuring apparatus is provided to precisely measure the distance from a position to a flag provided on a green of a golf field by utilizing an electronic camera and an image treating technique. CONSTITUTION: An electronic distance measuring apparatus includes an ocular section(1). A user views a flag provided on a green of a golf field through a telephoto lens formed in opposition to the ocular section(1). A measuring screen is provided to focus an image on the flag. A shutter section(5) generates digital data when an image is focused on the measuring screen. A magnification detecting sensor(8) is provided to detect a magnification of the telephoto lens. A calculating device(10) calculates a distance from a present position to the flag based on the data. A distance displaying section(7) displays the distance to the user.
