PURPOSE: An engine control system and an engine control method for LPG vehicles are provided to achieve improved engine starting ability by removing the residual gas from the fuel system when the engine is turned off during cold seasons. CONSTITUTION: An engine control system comprises a vehicle operating state detection unit for detecting signals varying in accordance with the change of vehicle operating state; an engine control unit(200) for receiving signals applied from the vehicle operating state detection unit, delaying the received signal in accordance with a preset program, calculating changes of coolant temperature and engine RPM, and outputting a relay drive control signal and liquid/gaseous solenoid valve control signal; a relay driving unit(300) for changing state of contact and supplying/cutting battery power by being synchronized with the relay drive control signal output from the engine control unit; and a driving unit(400) for receiving the battery power applied from the relay driving unit, and turning on/off the liquid/gaseous solenoid valves by being synchronized with the control signal output from the engine control unit.
