PURPOSE: A redundancy mechanized protocol for a high capacity parallel router is provided to supply the high capacity parallel router having a distributive-type structure, thereby implementing maximum performance for a microprocessor processing capacity and an efficient packet routing protocol without restrictions of the router. CONSTITUTION: Many routing nodes(210,220,230,240) have routing tables maintained to normally route message packets to receiving nodes from each transmission node, and transceive the message packets from an external device. Switch structures(250A,250B) transmit the message packets between the transmission nodes and the receiving nodes. One designated node of the routing nodes(210,220,230,240) transmits a hellow request message to one non-designated node of the nodes(210,220,230,240) in order to retransmit a hellow response confirming message from the non-designated node. The designated routing node monitors a constant time between a transmission of the hellow request message and a reception of the hellow response confirming message, and decides whether the non-designated routing node fails.
