PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device is provided to prevent erroneous arrangement due to the thermal expansion of substrates, and prevent an adhesive from breaking. CONSTITUTION: A first substrate(111) having patterns and a liquid crystal layer(113) is loaded on a lower surface plate(101). A second substrate(112) having a color filter layer is absorbed to an upper surface plate. Air of a vacuum chamber(100) is stripped by operating a vacuum pump(145). The first substrate and the second substrate are bonded together via an adhesive(141). Inactive gas is supplied into the vacuum chamber by opening a valve(146) of a gas supply pipe(103) to form atmospheric pressure in the vacuum chamber. A cell gap between the first substrate and the second substrate is formed by using the difference in pressure between the vacuum state of the substrates and the atmospheric pressure. The adhesive is hardened by using light or heat.
