PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP that is operated with high luminous efficiency and has good reproducibility of color. SOLUTION: A sealing glass layer 15 is provided at the periphery of the surface of the rear panel plate 20 and protrusions 16 are formed at a nearly constant interval on the sealing glass layer 15. The level difference of the protrusions 16 is required to be at least 50μm or 100μm and is desirable to be 300μm or more. Sealing of the panel plates 10, 20 is made by heating in the heating furnace in the dry air by increasing the temperature up to the melting point temperature or more of the low melting point glass.
