<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emission element, an electron source, an image display device, and an image forming device capable of forming a converged electron beam with high definition writing capability, at higher response and itself produced easily, and facilitating the manufacture. SOLUTION: This electron emission element is so formed that a cathode electrode 2, a first insulating layer 4, a second insulating layer 5, and a gate electrode 6 are stacked on a substrate 1, and is provided with a plurality of through holes 7 formed from the gate electrode 6 to the first insulating layer 4 and the second insulating layer 5, transports electron from the cathode electrode 2 toward an electron emission layer 3 disposed on the cathode electrode 2, and emits the electron from the electron emission layer 3. This device is characterized in that the thickness of the first insulating layer 4 and the second insulating layer 5 is thinner than the distance between the cathode electrode 2 and the gate electrode 6, at least, in the whole part or a part of an opening region 9 where the through hole 7 are formed.</p> |
