PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device that is superior in breakdown voltage for electric discharge and is improved in image quality. SOLUTION: The image display device comprises a face plate 12 having an image display screen and a rear plate 10 that is arranged opposed to the face plate with a space and is provided with a plurality of electron sources 18 for exciting the image display screen. A grid 24 and a plurality of spacers 30a, 30b for holding the interval of these plates are provided between these face plate and rear plate. A voltage higher than the voltage impressed to the face plate is impressed to the grid 24 from the voltage supply part 50.
