PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain good brightness efficiency or the like by restraining light absorption as much as possible at an electrode layer and output the light effectively when light is emitted through the electrode layer, in a self-luminous type organic electroluminescent element. SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescent element structured to output the light from a luminescent layer 3 composed of an organic material and pinched by a first electrode 2 and a second electrode 4, to at least either a first electrode 2 side or a second electrode 4 side, light absorption rate of the electrode at a light output side from the luminescent layer 3 out of the first electrode 2 and the second electrode 4 is to be not more than 10%.
