PURPOSE: A time lapse video cassette recorder is provided to automatically change the resolution for recording or reproducing according to the motion change of image signals, thereby precisely monitoring sections having the motion change conveniently. CONSTITUTION: A time lapse video cassette recorder includes a switching part(120) for selectively outputting image signals transmitted by a plurality of cameras(110), a recording/reproducing part(130) for recording the image signals output from the switching part to a recording medium by a predetermined resolution based on A/V data per frame and reproducing the image signals by a predetermined resolution based on the A/V data, a motion detecting part(160) for detecting the motion change of the image signals by the comparing between the image signals input from the switching part or the recording/reproducing part with reference recording or reproducing signals, and a control part(140) for changing the A/V data to change the resolution according to the motion change and transmitting the changed A/V data to the recording/reproducing part.
