PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a closed lead storage battery enabled to have excellent mechanical strength and short-circuit preventing function with small average pore diameter by applying polyethylene separator manufacturing technology based on an extrusion/extraction molding method recently popularized in the field of open type lead storage battery. SOLUTION: For a separator for a closed lead storage battery made of acid resistant thermoplastic resin, inorganic powder, and a plasticizer contained by 1-15 mass%, the thickness keeping ratio and the porosity under the pressure of 49 kPa against the pressure of 20 kPa are 80-90% and 70-90% respectively.
