PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device capable of reducing the communication cost. SOLUTION: A CPU 57 once disconnects the channel connection of an NCU 56 to an L-mode gateway 16 via a public telephone channel 15 when any button of button and the like 22 is operated. A control command corresponding to the operated button relates to printing and the number of pages to be printed is a predetermined number or more, conducts a printing process, and again connects the channel of the gateway 16 to the NCU 56 via the public telephone channel 15 when the printing process is finished. The CPU 57 conducts the printing process without disconnecting the channel of the gateway 16 to the NCU 56 via the telephone channel 15 when the number of the pages to be printed is less than predetermined.
