APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING POSITION OF TORCH CUTTING MACHINE

PURPOSE: An apparatus for determining position of torch cutting machine is provided to improve work productivity by removing generation of slab length cutting defects and slab lower surface flaws due to slab length cutting error of the torch cutting machine and reducing facility load of the torch cutting machine to reduce maintenance and repairing work of facility. CONSTITUTION: In a torch cutting machine for cutting a hot slab(110) in continuous casting plant, the apparatus for determining position of the torch cutting machine comprises first position detecting unit(5) comprising a rack gear(10) installed along traveling rails(136), a pinion gear being in gear with the rack gear(10), and a signal generator(14) connected to rotation shaft of the pinion gear to calculate moving distance of the torch cutting machine(100); second position detecting unit(30) comprising first light sensor for detecting gears of the rack gear(10) to calculate moving distance of the torch cutting machine(100) by calculating the number of gears; and a control part(90) for computing distance by receiving signals from the first and second position detecting units(5,30) so that the apparatus calculates cutting position of a hot slab accurately.
