PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus which relates to the method and apparatus for sealing a flat electrolytic capacitor by crimping, particularly for uniformly crimping a sealed part by making the velocity of contacting the sealed part nearly equal at a linear part and a contour part of an opening of the flat electrolytic capacitor or slower at the linear part according to the shape of the flat electrolytic capacitor. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the flat electrolytic capacitor, a capacitor element is stored in a flat metal case having an opening edge composed of opposed linear parts and contour parts continuing to these linear parts, a sealing member is inserted into the opening of the metal case, a forming roller is made to come in contact with the opening edge and to move, and thus the sealed part is sealed by crimping. A contact velocity of the forming roller with respect to the opening edge composed of the linear parts is equal to or less than that with respect to the opening edge composed of the contour parts.
