PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assign vowels and consonants composing Japanese syllabary to keys of different shapes and sizes for a key input device, respectively, in order to improve the operability in character entry. SOLUTION: In a telephone 10 as the key input device, a vowel key group 102a composed of respective vowel keys (AIUEO) and a consonant key group 102b composed of respective consonant keys are distinctively disposed, and the respective key groups are formed differently. Besides, for the telephone 10, a key for 'ka' row of the Japanese syllabary in portable telephone method entry and a key for 'K' key in romaji entry are assigned to the same '2' key, and similarly, a character indicating each row of the Japanese syllabary and a consonant character of an alphabet corresponding to the character are assigned to the same key.
