PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet for a rotating electric machine which can effectively suppress a displacement of a rotor in the axial and radial direction of a rotary shaft, and to provide a rotating electric machine using the same. SOLUTION: A thick part 48, where a thickness of a permanent magnet 40 is thickest, is formed in a prescribed region in a neighborhood of an approximately central part of the permanent magnet 40 in the axial direction of a rotary shaft and the thick part 48 is closest to a core. The approximately central part of the permanent magnet 40 in the axial direction, therefore, has a larger magnetic force attracting the core and the rotary shaft than both the ends of the permanent magnet 40 in the axial direction, so that, if the core tends to displace in the axial direction of the rotary shaft, the large attracting force produced by the magnetic force of the permanent magnet 40 is applied, so as to prevent the core from the displacement. As a result, rotation irregularities in the rotating state of a rotor, which are caused by the vibration and inclination of the core in the axial direction of the rotary shaft, can be avoided or suppressed effectively.
