PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording method and apparatus, a data recording medium and data reproducing method and apparatus for coping with a plurality of versions or rating modes in such a manner that the reproducing system selects a reproducing channel of speech data matched to the reproducing pattern of video data for reproducing the speech data and video data matched to the reproducing pattern. SOLUTION: A multiplexer 3 divides video data and audio data of a plurality of channels respectively in the unit of packets, multiplexes audio data corresponding to a reproduction pattern of the video data and the audio data of a plurality of channels and outputs the result to a DSM 10. The DSM 10 records the data from the multiplexer 3 onto a recording medium.
