PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein a special structure must be added to a conventional monitoring device to transmit operation ending signals outside for informing a user located at a distant place about the operating condition of general household appliances installed in a user's home, and furthermore the conventional monitoring device is poor in general-purpose properties. SOLUTION: This monitoring device 20 is equipped with a sensor which detects physical phenomena such as vibrations, sounds, heat, light and the like emitted from a target apparatus 10, a control unit 25 which judges whether the target apparatus operates normally or not on the basis of the physical phenomena detected by the sensor, and a transmitter which transmits the operating condition of the target apparatus judged by the control unit 25 to a communication terminal 30.
