PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk medium and a magneto-optical disk medium excellent in smoothness, heat resistance and light transmissivity by forming a covering layer consisting of solvent soluble polyimide resin. SOLUTION: The optical disk medium having at least a reflection layer, an optical recording layer and the covering layer successively formed on a substrate is characterized in that the covering layer consists essentially of polyimide resin containing a repeating unit represented by the following general formula (1). The magneto-optical disk medium having at least a reflection layer, a magneto-optical recording layer and a covering layer successively formed on a substrate is characterized in that the covering layer consists essentially of polyimide resin containing the repeating unit represented by the general formula (1).
