PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vending machine control method which changes a control temperature into the optimum one in response to a cooling/heating operation mode and the number of arranged stages of a merchandise storing rack. SOLUTION: An arrangement constitution is detected concerning the racks 4a which are arranged in each of chambers 7 and 8. The control temperature with adapts to the detected rack arrangement constitution is selected from a temperature table which is generated by obtaining in advance the control temperatures for operations with the optimum load at every rack arrangement constitution in cold-setting or hot-setting. Each of the chambers 7 and 8 is cooled or heated with the selected control temperature.
