PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve the display impossible state, namely, saturation of display in a display part with respect to a photoelectric switch provided with the display part. SOLUTION: In figure, '0 to 9999' shows that internal arithmetics related to display in the normal mode are executed in 4 digits. '0 to 99999' on the right shows that internal arithmetics in the high resolution mode are executed in 5 digits. In the high resolution mode, the quantity of received light is operated in 5 digits, and an intermediate value between its maximum value and its minimum value, namely, the value of the detection center is set as a threshold. The 5-digit quantity of received light is displayed by using a monitor or a display device which has two display parts joined and can display 8 digits practically.
