PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method for a plasma display panel, which stably brings about maintaining discharge of following sub-fields out of sub-field to be consecutively selected. SOLUTION: A maintenance erase pulse, a preliminary discharge pulse, and a preliminary discharge erase pulse in preliminary discharge periods of following sub-field except the leading sub-field out of a plurality of sub-fields to be consecutively selected are omitted and are not applied to a scanning electrode and a common electrode. Consequently, maintaining discharge of a following sub-field is stably brought about without application of a data pulse in the scanning period in the following sub-field because wall electric charge generated in the maintenance period of a preceding sub-field does not vanish.
