PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery restrained from breaking when unusually heated. SOLUTION: A pipe 41 formed of material with a higher softening point than a separator 3 is inserted in a core part 30 of a spiral electrode body 1, and one end part 41b of the pipe 41 is brought into contact with a bottom part 2a of an outer can 2, while the other end part 41a is disposed in the state of projecting from the spiral electrode body. Consequently, even when the battery is unusually heated such as exposed into fire, the pipe 41 inserted in the core part 40 is harder to melt than the separator 13. An exhaust passage for reaction gas can thereby be secured restraining the closure of the exhaust passage due to the melted separator, and the damage to the battery caused by the rise of pressure inside the battery can be restrained.
