PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently transfer image data from a reader to a printer via the image memory of a controller in an image forming apparatus in which a plurality of types of readers and a plurality of types of printers are connected to the one controller. SOLUTION: The controller receives the image data from the reader, temporarily stores the data in an image memory, and sends the data from the memory to the printer. The controller acquires a reader processing speed from the reader, acquires a printer processing speed from the printer, calculates timing for sending the data to the printer when writing the data from the reader in the memory based on a difference between the reader processing speed and the printer processing speed and the sub-scanning size of the data, sets the timing to the memory, starts the reading of the original by the reader, and sends the data from the memory to the printer at the timing.
