PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-luminous picture display device which has a display performance of high contrast even when being obliquely observed. SOLUTION: A self-luminous picture display device A is provided with an emission part 10 for displaying a picture, a reflection part 20 which is provided at the rear of the emission part 10 so as to have the reflection face directed toward the emission part, and a luminous part 30 provided at the rear of the emission part 10. The emission part 10 is provided with a linearly polarizing element 15 which is provided so as to cover a display face and allows only prescribed linearly polarized light to pass through in the outside light and a phase difference film 14 which is provided nearer to the luminous part than the linearly polarizing element 15 and converts the linearly polarized light from the front of the display face, which has been transmitted through the linearly polarizing element 15 to circularly polarized light. The retardation film 14 has a structure constituting an index ellipsoid and satisfies nx>nz>ny where nx, ny, and nz are the refractive index in the axial direction of phase lagging, the refractive index in the axial direction of phase advancing, and the refractive index in the perpendicular direction of the film respectively.
