摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily realize a wavelength multiplexing system by using optical modulation by means of an electric signal. SOLUTION: A mode-locking semiconductor laser 1 generates an optical pulse train. Transmitting data are supplied from an input terminal 3 to an electro-optical (EO) modulator 2, and an intensity or phase of the optical pulse train is modulated by the transmitting data. In a fully optical encoder 4, the spectrum of the modulated optical pulse signal from the EO modulator 2 is spread. Optical signal from the encoder 4 is transmitted through an optical fiber 10. The receiver is composed of a decoder 12 and a receiver 13 and the received digital data of the electric signal are outputted from the receiver 13 to an output terminal 14. The decoder 12 is made into constitution complementary with the encoder 4 and applies inversely spreading to the spreading performed by the encoder 4. The receiver 13 outputs a demodulated signal corresponding to the strength or phase of the optical pulse train.
