PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce noise during recording/reproducing by stabilizing the magnetic domain of a soft magnetic lining layer during the perpendicular recording of a perpendicular magnetic recording magnetic disk. SOLUTION: The maximum value of the magnetic disk in-plane direction component of an external magnetic field applied to a magnetic recording disk is set smaller than the absolute value Hn of the magnetic field of an intersection point between a straight line connecting a point (Hs , Ms ) where magnetization is saturated at the first image limit of the M-H curve of a soft magnetic lining layer in-plane direction to a positive intersection point (0, Mr ) with a vertical axis, and a tangential line at a negative intersection point (-Hc , 0) of a horizontal axis. Thus, the magnetic domain of the soft magnetic lining layer is stabilized during recording.
