Production of a brake or clutch lining comprises applying an adhesive to one of the surfaces of a carrier sheet, and pressing a molding composition made from friction material onto the surface of the carrier sheet optionally while maintaining an underlay material. Before applying the adhesive to the surface of the carrier sheet, at least one region of this surface is provided with protrusions which are produced by thermally spraying with an additional material. The molding composition and/or the underlay material are pressed onto the surface of the carrier sheet having the protrusions between the recesses during pressing. An independent claim is also included for a carrier sheet for the brake or clutch lining. Preferred Features: The surface of the carrier sheet is mechanically roughened before thermal spraying takes place. A few of the protrusions are provided with undercuts. The additional material is a nickel-based alloy or a nickel-containing alloy.
