<p>The present invention, in one embodiment, is a method of making a tire (2) with a skin (1) covering at least a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the tire (2). In practicing the method, a partially cured tire (2) and a partially cured skin (1) are provided. The partially cured tire (2) and the partially cured skin 81) are installed in a tire mold with the skin (1) engaging and covering at least a part of the outer surface of the tire (2) and with the skin (1) facing an inner surface of the mold. Heat and pressure are applied to the tire (2) to press the skin (1) and the tire (2) against the inner surface of the mold. The heat and pressure are maintained for a predetermined time period to vulcanize and bond together the tire (2) and the skin (1).</p> |
