The invention relates to a method for converting analog video signals to digital video signals, in which a) a digital video signal (RGB), a horizontal synchronization signal (HSync), and a pixel clock signal (PixClk) are obtained from an analog video signal and a predetermined number (p) of pixels per line<5>, <FOOTNOTE ID="FOO-00001"><5 >Translator's note: this is the first time the number of pixels has been notated (p). </FOOTNOTE>b) a phase position is determined from a test line of the digital video signal by: b1) sampling the test line in the output phase position at a sampling frequency which is n times the pixel frequency, and determining, given n phase positions, a first (up to the nth) measured value of the video signal for each pixel, b2) for two adjacent pixels, forming the differences of the first through the nth phase parameters and summing them over the test line for the first through the nth phase parameters (thetai, i=1-n), b3) determining the phase position from the phase parameters, c) changing the phase position, if required, as a function of the phase position determined.
