The telescopic table leg or strut for a folding item of furniture comprises an inner (2) and an outer (1) tube. A connecting sleeve (3) fits over these which has a peripheral groove (10), in which balls (4) are mounted. These pass part of the way through bores in the outer tube and lodge in a peripheral groove (5) in the inner tube to lock the tubes together.
