A method of controlling a supercharged internal combustion engine capable of increasing a thermal efficiency, a filling efficiency, a supercharger efficiency, and a freedom degree of cam design by the adoption of Atkinson cycle, particularly, a method of controlling the opening and closing of the valves of an internal combustion engine with supercharger, comprising the step of temporarily re-opening an exhaust valve in the former phase of a compression stroke to reduce an effective compression ratio so as to increase a thermal efficiency without excessively increasing a cylinder pressure, wherein an exhaust valve re-opening timing should desirably be set so that an effective compression ratio/expansion ratio comes within the range of 0.5 to 0.9, and the exhaust valve is not temporarily opened in the former phase of the compression stroke at the time of starting and during low load operation and re-opened during high load operation to form the Atkinson cycle.
|
