COMPOSITIONS USED TO ALLEVIATE XEROSTOMIA AND TO TREAT DISORDERS ASSOCIATED WITH SAME

The invention relates to novel fluid compositions that are used to alleviate xerostomia and to treat disorders associated with same. The inventive compositions contain: a) saliva substitute saline components which are selected from among sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, monobasic potassium phosphate and bibasic potassium phosphate; b) components that stimulate saliva formation which are selected from among citric acid or the alkaline metal salts thereof and malic acid or the alkaline metal salts thereof; c) oral antiseptic agents which are selected from among triclosan, chlorhexidine and the salts thereof, benzalkonium and the salts thereof and cetylpyridinium chloride; d) anti-cavity components which are selected from among sodium fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate and xylitol; and e) components that protect the oral mucous membranes which are selected from among vitamin E acetate, panthenol, dipotassium glycyrrhizinate and Aloe vera extracts. The aforementioned compositions take the form of mouthwashes, mouth gels, sprays and toothpastes.
