FIELD: charcoal production. SUBSTANCE: wood is broken to give semiproducts 50 to 150 mm in size, which are preliminarily dried to moisture 10-25%, treated with solution of mineral oxygen-containing polybasic acid, and thermally treated in presence of gaseous heat carrier in a continuous process including consecutive stages: finish drying, pyrolysis, glowing, and cooling. Vapors and gases are withdrawn from charcoal glowing zone and introduced into wood pyrolysis zone into which cooled flue gas is fed in countercurrent mode. Quality of charcoal is improved owing to high carbon content and strength caused by optimization of process in preliminarily drying and subsequent heat treatment of wood. EFFECT: improved quality of product, reduced heat losses, and increased yield of product with no environmental harm. 1 dwg
